UNICEF: SMOG kills children

Today, we deal with a serious topic – the polluted air that is killing our children. After an intense media campaign that has been on during the last months, one could think there is no more doubt that the so called ‘fresh air’ in many cities is harmful. Unfortunately, many people still wonder if it’s a good idea to go for a walk with children since they are not sure whether it’s harmful for them. Dear moms, I’m afraid I have to confirm that. Such a walk will not be beneficial – on the contrary, it may do your children harm. We encourage those who still have doubts to read the report of UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund).

The report says that 600,000 children under the age of 5 years die because of air pollution and millions of other children suffer from physical and mental development disorders. Every seventh child in the world (about 300mln) lives in the areas where air pollution exceeds 6 times the tolerable level.

I encourage those who don’t want to read the report to take a look at the article published on CNN.com. For those parents who still have doubts, we have a map illustrating child mortality rate in different regions of the world.
