The human camera

Let’s introduce our little ones to a few words from the Polish language, this time focusing on colours. This game can also be used for learning English or expanding children’s vocabulary. An additional bonus is that the activity shortens the distance between participants in a multicultural context. We are confident that the game will appeal to our main audience. 😉

• colours of the rainbow in two chosen languages (downloadable attachment)
• A4 white paper
• crayons

The teacher places a rainbow on the classroom wall with captions of its colours in the languages spoken by the participants (attachment). Children pair up. Ideally, pairs should be mixed, i.e., binational. One person is the photographer, the other is the camera. The photographer spins the camera three times around its axis and recites a rhyme:

One, two, three,
I see something you don’t see.
This object is …

(The child states the colour of the object they see in the play area and want to “photograph”).

The camera tries to guess and name (in their native language) what the photographer meant and points at the colour they think was chosen. The photographer confirms whether the answer is correct. If so, the roles switch. If more time is available, the game can end with drawing and labeling the correctly guessed object. Each child draws the object they identified.
