The main objectives of the Old Town Tour are:
- to get to know the parts of Warsaw connected to Jewish culture and history;
- to get to know the topography of the old Jewish Warsaw.
MATERIALS
- the map with quizzes (attachment 4.2)
- the route description with key information about the places visited (attachment 4.1)
- comfortable shoes
- pens (for the children to mark the answers on the map)
Instruction
As a part of this exercise, we encourage the children to explore Warsaw. Based on the available map and quiz sheet (attachment 4) and the information in the route description (attachment 5), the children will learn about the most interesting places in the Old Town and the City Centre which are related to Jewish tradition and culture.
Before the trip, print out the maps for the children, and for yourself also print the description of the route containing the key information and fun facts about the Jewish historic monuments. (The information is also available on the Tup Tup around Warsaw app).
After reaching the monuments marked on the map, read out the corresponding description. The children will be able to see many things with their own eyes. Some of them will refer to the traditions and history of Warsaw. After reading the description, ask one or two questions to make sure the children are listening attentively. The questions are also written on the map. Let each child answer the question individually and mark the correct answer on their map. Check if their answers are correct.
This route will allow you to explore 10 little-known places in Warsaw which are related to Jewish history, tradition and culture.
Fun Fact:
Tup Tup around Warsaw is a free mobile app which contains descriptions of over 200 places related to the historical heritage of Warsaw. Through the app, you can choose 1 of the 14 ready-made routes and read about the history and traditions of Warsaw.
