Goal:
– Familiarizing children with the natural habitat of forest animals. Developing mindfulness towards nature. Learning about wild inhabitants of the forest.
Time: 1 hour.
MATERIALS
- Observer’s Card (attachment below)
Task Description
Plan a forest trip with kids – preferably to the nearby forester’s lodge.
Try to find with kids traces of animal presence in the forest, such as bitten bark, torn earth by the wild boars trying to find food (a slash-and-burn), berry twigs, heather, animal footprints imprinted in the ground or in the snow. Perhaps you’ll be able to observe a pasture – how it’s built, what’s inside of it.
After coming back, fill out the Observer’s Card (attachment) together with the kids. It will help consolidate observations and previously gained knowledge.
