Goal: introducing children to the chimpanzee menu
Duration: 30 minutes

MATERIALS:
- chimpanzee menu — attachment 8.1
- white A4 paper
- laminator (optional)
- wooden percussion sticks (optional)
- scarf (blindfold)
How to run the activity
First, print and cut along the dotted lines the chimpanzee menu from attachment 8.1. You can also laminate the cards if you like.
Next, choose the first volunteer. Briefly cover their eyes and ears while you hide one of the picture cards. Once the volunteer is free, start the game — just like “hot and cold,” but with a twist.
Instead of saying “hot” or “cold,” the rest of the group claps or taps wooden sticks. The closer the volunteer gets, the louder the sound. As a result, the volunteer follows the rhythm to find the card.
Keep playing until the treat picture is found. Then repeat with a new volunteer and a different card. The cards illustrate, row by row: a turtle, forest flowers, a termite, a leaf, bananas, and figs.
