How to save energy? Eco Detective’s list

This activity is done by an adult (teacher, parent).

Read the fairy tale “The birthday mystery – how to keep your home warm.” After reading the fairy tale, ask the children to name the places that Rascal, Pola, and the other detectives marked as places or objects that limited Kasia’s ability to keep a good temperature in the home.

When the children have listed all the items that can affect heat loss, show the children the printed “How to save energy?” List. Read the items on the list and discuss which rules to use in the kindergarten or at home.

Any small change can bring about the reduction of heat loss. “How to save energy?” contains a whole series of points that can reduce your bills by several dozen percent. Preschool children may not know that adults have to pay the bills for heat and electricity. When energy is saved, it not only improves air quality but also reduces household expenses. Although the tale only mentions saving heat energy, reducing electricity is just as important for the environment. The list also includes items that point out how to save electricity, i.e. unplug the charger, turn off the lights, use energy-saving light bulbs, etc.
