Summer. What a perfect time to perform solar energy experiment! Did you know that the Earth absorbs more solar energy within 1 hour than people living on Earth utilise within the entire year? That’s the great untapped potential of the alternative sources of energy. Why don’t we use one of the last summer days then? Let’s make one uncomplicated experiment that will demonstrate to the kids how solar energy converts into heat. Let’s make a solar microwave experiment.
WE WILL NEED:
- empty pizza box or any other flat box
- aluminium foil
- clingfilm
- scissors
- paper knife
- self-adhesive tape
- biscuits
- marshmallows
- stick or any other device to prop the lid of the ‘microwave’
Instruction
We’ve only got one piece of advice this time. Pick places that are very rich in sunshine. It will take approx. 30 minutes for the marshmallows to melt. In a microwave like this one you will not only be able to melt the marshmallows, but also to reheat your leftover pizza.
