War causes not only a humanitarian crisis but also a mental health crisis. Helplessness, breakdown, depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome and a whole range of other difficult experiences accompany Ukrainian children and their parents on a daily basis. Moving to a safer place of residence does not automatically solve the problems; in fact, it adds new difficulties associated with finding oneself in an unfamiliar environment.
Together with our partner the Ukraine Children’s Action Project, we encourage you to use the guidebook “Helping Children Cope After a Traumatic Event” created by highly respected child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Harold Koplewicz and his organization The Child Mind Institute.
