The white stork is a bird that can be seen in various habitats, both natural and altered by human activity.
Most often white storks choose wet areas such as swamps, riversides, and ponds. Water plays a crucial role in the life of the white stork. It is there that they find an abundance of food such as amphibians, fish, and insects.
They like to look for their prey in meadows and grasslands where it is easy to find food. White storks feel great in rural and suburban areas, often nesting on roofs, chimneys, or special platforms created by humans.
White storks are also known for their traveling abilities. During migration, they cover vast distances. This makes them very flexible birds, capable of adapting to various environments.
We propose to prepare with the children an interesting artwork that can be used not only to consolidate the knowledge of the storks’ habitats but also as a great tool for having fun together.
Aim:
– Familiarise children with the natural habitats of storks
Time: 45 minutes
MATERIALS
– Black, red, and green paper
– Big flat cardboard box
– Green and blue tissue paper
– Instructions for making a stork
– Instructions for origami frog
– Glue
– Scissors
Task Description
1. Make paper storks with the instructions from the attachment. Start with the beak by folding the square red paper according to the instructions. Slightly stiffer paper might be helpful while making the stork. Fold the beak elements and make them into a triangle, and then join them together. Glue a white circle to the top of the beak and paint on the eyes.
2. Make frogs using the origami technique according to the instructions from the attachment.
3. Make a pond using cardboard and tissue paper. To do that, glue the walls of the cardboard box in green and the bottom in blue. The pond can be decorated with water lily leaves or other plants depending on the imagination.
